Pablo y Walter Malbec 75CL Bottle
A celebration of Mendoza - the colour, culture and flavour and a celebration of friendship. A really pure expression of Malbec, bright red & juicy, rich chocolate flavours with a lick of oak to round out the edges. Muy, muy fantasticó – richly bloody, vibrant, Latin and velveteen.
Pablo Y Walter is the lovechild of Walter Bressia and Eric Monnin, a unique and exciting project. The idea was to make a great value Mendozan Malbec labelled to celebrate the colour of Mendoza. Walter Bressia was the winemaker at Nieto Senetiner when Paul Boutinot took on the agency some 14 years ago so Pablo y Walter book-ends Boutinot's experience in Mendoza. There really is no finer man to do this with, as outlined by The Wine Advocate and Tim Atkin MW recently. Walter's production of his Monteagrelo wines is tiny by comparison to more or less every other Mendoza bodega and whilst Eric and Walter would have preferred to have bottled the wine at Walter’s bodega, the volume involved would simply have broken his dinky, expensive-looking and top-end bottling machine. Bottling in France also avoids lengthy Argentinian lead-times. Produced from 25 year old vines in the Lujan de Cuyo district of Mendoza, close to Walter’s bodega in the rain-shadow of the Cordon del Plata mountains that tower over the valley, it is then blended with 10% of Walter’s own Monteagrelo Malbec.
The unwooded Malbec is blended with 10% of Walter’s own Monteagrelo Malbec, which is the wooded component. Walter bought two spankingly new 25000-litre steel tanks specifically for this project and subsequently somehow crow-barred them into his bodega.
Try with a big, juicy steak, churrasco de chorizo marinated with garlic, parsley and olive oil, grilled vegetables with chimichurri sauce.
